Paris 2011
Merci, Woody. My plea in the last post did not fall on deaf ears. Midnight In Paris opened in Durham the next day. I hurried myself over to the mall to buy tickets (I was not about to take a chance on it selling out), let the Ex-Ex know what we would be up to, and sent a text to Arles Lucy to let her know. What a magical movie. Owen Wilson did a wonderful job in his role as a writer who idolizes Paris of the 1920's. He meets up with Hemingway, Gatsby, Stein, Lautrec and many, many more characters. Paris is the true star of the film, however. I walked away feeling as if I'd watched a love story between Woody Allen and Paris, the most beautiful city in the world.
That inspired me to go back through the photos I have taken of Paris this year. What a lucky girl I am. The year isn't even halfway over (and I always hold out hope that an airline ticket may fall into my lap at any minute-- I can't help myself) and I've been there twice, in January with other teachers, and in March with my students and my co-chaperone, Arles Lucy. I resisted the urge to include photos of the delicious food I consumed on both trips (foie gras, steak frites, soupe à l'oignon, raclette, salade de chèvre chaud, etc.). So, here are my favorite photos of Paris 2011, in no particular order. (Note: Some of them may very well have been taken by students or Arles Lucy.)
Bon appétit, Paris! Je t'aime. À la prochaine...

Midnight in Paris
Alrighty now. I have seen the trailer. I've looked it up on-line. I know the basic story. A Frenchie I know has been to see it already. It opened in France for the Cannes film festival in May. Of course, he wrote to tell me I should see it. And I will as soon as it hits Durham. Please, Woody, can't you make them hurry? Durham is just as important as New York and L.A. Maybe even more important. I mean, look at that Van Gogh sky. I am beyond ready. I need my fix. Popcorn and Paris... Although the only popcorn I've found in French movie theaters is sweet, not salty and buttery. Wonder what's up with that?
Bon appétit, Woody Allen and Paris!
